The aims and objectives of the Little Red Dragon Group are to assist the Fundraising Group to raise money by planning dances and picnics, and to assist the Pre-Primary Group by making and drawing all the pictures and illustrations that they need to use to ensure a better environment for the LRD pupils to learn in.
The Little Red Dragon (LRD) is a pre-primary school which opened its doors in July 2005. It is situated at the Lebone Centre in Grahamstown and is a project of the ICDP Trust. The Little Red Dragon is thriving and has 23 pupils and one pre-primary teachers - Ms. Pippa Wilkinson.
Thanks to a well-organized Heritage Day Fun Run, R3000 was donated to the Little Red Dragon by the KJPA (Kingswood Junior Parents Association). The money was utilized to purchase musical instruments, a music centre, tapes and puzzles. The school also has a wonderful selection of reading material thanks to generous donations from Biblioneef and the wider Grahamstown community. The LRD children also enjoy making use of the SmartKidz computer donated by IBM. We are optimistic that these resources will continue to be developed.
2005 was a busy year for all the Kingswood College Community Projects Club members involved with the Little Red Dragon. At the start of the year, the pupils helped by cleaning out the storeroom and other areas of the school. They made themselves useful throughout the year by offering a helping hand by playing with the children and helping out with activities. At the end of the year they made Christmas decorations for the children’s lovely Christmas concert.
Little Red Dragon is set for new improvements this year; led by Janine Hess, Chloe Middleton and Tsele Nthane, a plan was made to renovate the outside equipment, such as jungle gyms, slides and workplaces. Lots of scraping and painting needs to be done. The main focus of this year is to lift the present tiled floor in the classroom and replace it with a new one. All the unsuitable wooden tables and chairs will be given away to make room for pre-primary regulation plastic equipment. Ms. Pippa Wilkinson will be in charge of the logistics.
