Last year started on a positive note with the launching of a Computer Literacy Course with the ACE children, who have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of their new task. The course contains the basic skills and theory of using a computer (switching the computer on and off, different parts of the computer and basic usage of Microsoft Word.) The children have also taken part in various recreational activities, such as cricket, soccer and rugby. The girls have also enjoyed the cricket games. Apart from doing the computer course with the ACE children, the Lebone Centre group has also enjoyed many quiet times reading books to the ACE children and improving their listening skills.

The ACE group has been very active with a number of things. to start of, we had a Christmas concert in November of 2006 which was a great success. The ace children were very busy with rehearsals throughout October and November and this was evident at the concert. Both the boys and the girls did a dance, showing off their talents and abilities. This was followed by the song "Bruder Jakob" which was performed by them in Afrikaans, English and German a task which they managed exceptionally well. To finish off, the play "Noah's Ark" was performed with most of the children wearing colourful masks made for them by the ACE group members. The play involved songs such as "If you're happy and you know it", and "All things bright and beautiful". They genuinely enjoyed the performance as well as the practices.

After the concert the children has doughnuts and juice before they were walked back to the lebone centre.
At the centre we were able to hand out a number of gifts to them, kindly donated by a number of people which made it a wonderful finish to our year. Much thanks for help with the concert has to go to the "Big Brothers".

The year has started out as quite a good year, so much so that although we were worried in terms of not having enough group members due to a small number  we have now had to split our group into two.

This adjustment came along when 15 people signed up to the ACE project this year and it is easier to split the group in two. This is also very helpful in terms of organization as one group will go up to the centre the one week while the other group stays at Kingswood where they then prepare activities that they will then do with the kids the following week when the other group has to stay behind and plan. This way, the groups never arrive at the centre without anything to do which could become frustrating for the kids.
We would like to improve the kids' computer literacy skills even more this year and this will be made a lot easier by a few new computers being set up and old ones being serviced. We would like to make this happen in a playful way, hopefully keeping it interesting and exciting for the ACE children. Other than that we are hoping to provide the kids with a Friday afternoon to look forward to as we will play games, sing songs, puzzle and read to them while making sure that they are not bored but rather entertained and happy.
